i was expecting this to be more pro-socialist but it still very much interprets “natural experiments” (i.e. history) through a neoliberal lense - supporting a “gradualism” out of socialism - as if the reason specific post-socialist countries maintained healthy populations wasn’t due to them maintaining highly socialist social programs.

it’s enraging to see just how blind and arrogant these economics can be 🙃 TIL that Russia’s adoption of Shock Therapy aka the rapid transition from communism to capitalism — aided by “specialist” economists from Harvard’s “advices” — has actually worsened their overall GDP and public health

& the economists had the nerve to defend their misguided advices 🔪
