My only critique about this book is the pacing. It was a little slow at times, but I really enjoyed the last fourth of the book. And the characters were great.

I still think that Alie had good taste in books and reading this one was a fun way to honor her. I'm glad that I finally took her recommendation. 😁

Now I know why the series is called circle of magic. 🙂

Damn!! Poor Sandry is triggered at the moment. It was nice of Tris to remind Sandry that she's not a coward. That's true. I wonder if Sandry was triggered by being stuck in a dark cave since she was stuck in a dark room at the beginning of the book.

'My reasoning was the same as it was for Tris; I preferred that you grow into knowing your power, instead of having it thrust on you, to keep from damaging your spirits any more than they’ve been.'

I understand Niko's reason for wanting to protect the kids, but I also understand why the kids would be irritated with him because they wanted to know about their magic all along.

'You four get to train this fierce, wolflike creature to take his business out-of-doors,' she told them as she worked. 'And clean up after him, and stop him from chewing everything in sight.”

This is the perfect description of a puppy. 😆

Daja's acquaintances who are smiths seem to think that she's very unusual because she can touch super hot things without being burned by them. I'm guessing that this has to do with her magical abilities.

'Shame on you!' cried Lark, gold-brown cheeks flushed. 'Who are you to judge who is fit to stay or go? This lad is here for a reason!'

Go Lark!! Good for her for giving Briar the benefit of the doubt and not judging him based on his past. 🙂❤

Lark's kindness toward Daja was very meaningful. 😊

I love this!! Tris wants to feel empowered and understandably so. In general, most people want feel empowered.

It won’t. Magic only attracts lightning when it’s meant to, thank the gods, or those with magical power wouldn’t live to be mages.'

That's intriguing dialogue from Niko and that makes total sense in the context of this fictional universe.

The pacing of this book is a bit slow, but I'll power through.

Briar learned from one of his interactions with Tris that he couldn't make assumptions about her just because she's a girl. She wasn't a chatterbox just because Sandry was. So he couldn't group Tris with Sandry because they have different personalities.

Briar's trauma was showing since he thought he was going to be slapped during dinner. That was sad to read about. 😣

He's still being a shit about the rule regarding bathing on a daily basis. He doesn't want to comply with it. 😆

I wish that I felt up to finishing this chapter, but I'm fighting a cold, so I have to be kind to my body. I'm glad to be reading two books again after a few days of nursing myself and listening to my body.

Briar could see that Dedicate Crane was determined to think the worst.

That's my favorite type of person. *sarcasm* Crane was ridiculously suspicious of Briar. That irked me.

I'm loving Sandry's patience and her kindness towards Tris. Sandry doesn't have an ego just because she's a noble. She's willing to make friends with anybody.

I'm still enjoying Brian's love for plants. That brings a soft side to his character since he cares about nature. And it makes him multifaceted since Tris, Daja, and Sandry seem to only think of him as the thief.
