Hmmph. Unfortunately, this has fallen down a bit. Careful character and story building gave way to jumping to plot/relationship points without foundation and a chase scene that has me skipping pages. Enough already.

Yay. This is a great surprise. No romance to write about but great world building and very engaging.

Maybe it's just the right book at the right time, but I'm having a lot of fun reading this.

All of the relationships are rushed. And how do they go from wary but admiring comrades (which is understandable), with a smile here and there, to suddenly getting married? Why is marriage even a thought when exactly zero courting has happened? I can see wanting some form of commitment with the person you realize you care deeply about but that doesn't need to skip five steps and rush straight into marriage.

The characters are intriguing but the writing style is convoluted. Skimming over excessive detail helps but there is so much overdeveloped alien technology that it is very easy to get lost. Complicated unnecessary details are explained while simple details that would better set the scene are ignored. I will admit the authors' imaginations are glorious but they let that overshadow the plot and the characters.
