Status Updates From The Other Half of the Sky

Slowly making my way through this anthology. Using the short stories as palate cleansers between books while I decide what to read next.

Didn't like either of the last two all that much.

"Dagger and Mask": Ooh, that was fantastic.

Yessssss Google reveals that there is actually a full novel based on the characters from Velocity's Ghost! Want!

"Velocity's Ghost": Another one where it felt like a tiny bit more explanation might be nice, but overall I really enjoyed it. I wonder if the author has written anything else in this world?

"I hate planets. Filthy, heavy, smelly, and this one was leaking.
'It's rain,' Rida said."

Lol, Velocity's Ghost is already off to a great start.

"Under Falna's Mask": Sad but hopeful. Lovely.

"The Shape of Thought": I loved the story, the ideas, and the writing.

"This Alakie and the Death of Dima": Seems like a cool story, but there was just a little bit too much left unexplained. I don't understand enough about this world to really feel the story.

Mimesis: Skipped ahead to read this, then realized the story is also in my next Stories of the Raksura book. Oh well, it was entertaining!

Landfall: An excerpt from a longer story, and it feels like it. Too much going on for a short story.

Sailing the Antarsa: Overwhelmingly beautiful and full of emotion. I don't have the words to describe how this story moved me.

Mission of Greed: Unpleasant and confusing.

In Colors Everywhere: The story feels a little unfinished, but the world building is fascinating.

A couple nice long stories to start out. I enjoyed "Bad Day on Boscobel" a lot.

Finders: Wow. Well, that's quite a tease for the book.

Returning to read this for real! Just in time for a Raksura story that happens just before the stories in the February Raksura book. Sooooo many authors I love. And Athena Andreadis writes amazing introductions.

More Aliette de Bodard. "The Waiting Stars" is... wow. A really painful, intense story. I really, really liked it.
