El Hamel’s work represents a significant contribution to the historiography of slavery and race relations within early modern Moroccan society. In the book, the author points out that Moroccan history has generally been written to reflect the past but not to question or re-examine it by considering the specific culture of non-Arabs and non-Muslims.

Interesting how male interpreters of the Quran modified the ideas to share to serve the political agenda at the time. It’s a great study that the author made regarding how slavery is mentioned in Quran and to state the truth about Islam and the fact that slavery has always been against the religion and what is in the Quran.
