This book is so effed up! And how do I still like Walker after everything he has done?

The writing is uninspired and Joel is a narcissist. But the story is so original that I can't wait to find out what happened next.

The book is oddly captivating. What the hell is going on?!

I'm on a ride and I can't wait to see where it takes me. Smooth writing. Descriptive when it needs to be and straightforward. Finally no freaking show-off writing all over the place.

I was so wrong about what this book

So... this book is terrifying so far. But I actually think it should be even darker than it is, given the subject matter.

"Am I not a good man in this life?"
"You're always a good man, Joel."

"Ah, April," I said pained. "This capitalist side of your personality is ruining my precious vision of you as my guardian angel."
"Angel?" She scoffed at me. "Whoever said I was an angel?"
"My romantic mind, I guess."

"You cast the spell because you wanted me to want you, but deep down, you wanted it to be real. You used magic, and all the time you wished you didn't need it."

A smile touched his lips as he dipped his head. "You liked me when we first met?"
"You realize this was before you sucked the life out of me, don't you?"

"I guess this means that you've stopped wandering," I whispered. He'd decided I was his home, and he wasn't going anywhere.
