I chose this book because it challenges misconceptions, highlights remarkable human dignity, and combines travel, history, and science to provide a new, profound perspective on the world of the blind. This holds my interest because it's an eye-opening book. It turns your fears about blindness upside down by showing how people navigate a dark world with way more skill and guts than most sighted people ever have.

Seriously? WTF?

The only "dreary, pitiable, earnest" person in this book so far is the author.

Please tell me this isn't going to turn into the author making a fetish of "inspiring, magical" blind people. I will throw this thing across the room so hard ....
