End of chapter 1, we arrive in Monterey as « late afternoon was moving towards sunset », but we start chapter 2 by saying how the drive down flew by and he hadn’t even noticed arriving in Monterey. I want to enjoy this book, but I’m getting pulled out of the story by these inconsistencies.

No, you can’t, Dave. I can suspend disbelief as well as the next person, but in a standard car like you drive, it would take 2 hours at least to make that drive.
