Wow. This is awful. Really, really awful. All tell, no show. Example? MC watching a parade, thinking to himself: "This was quite exciting." Whoa, sends just shivers of excitement down my spine reading ALL. THIS. EMOTION.
The author obviously has no idea about history, sociology, politics or an ounce of common sense. I doubt she ever read a good fantasy book. Maybe fairy tales.

He wonders if his mom knows yet? That makes no sense. They weren't that many days out when the king was assassinated. Then his small party traveled on to their destination. Which took a few days. Travelled to the seers house. Spent time. Got on a boat. Spent days. Got off the boat and found the Miller. Spent nearly a week. How could his mom not know?
