I always hate LONG separation timelines. Carly takes a phone number from Luke because she didn't have any friends in town, but wasn't this the town she grew up in? If her father was as stubborn as the author wants us to think he was, he would have found Carly. Where is Kari's family? Maybe it's all explained later.
