As if it isn't bad enough that the book is in the first person or that the MC speaks with a Texan accent, but everyone talks that way. Can't we just assume everyone's Texan and leave all the apostrophes and made up contractions out?

There are parts of this book that are just lovely little bits of life and then there are the parts that take your breath away. I'm not sure exactly which parts I like best. Or if I don't like the others. Though right now I'm mad at the heroine, worried for the hero, and terrified for the whole Scooby gang of good guys. So there's that.

The author is doing a good job of explaining the various magical creatures (vampires, werewolves, demons) logically and eerily.

It's refreshing to read a book where there's a lot of rich description that feels like it's just second nature. In other words, you don't even realize that you're reading a lot of scene and setting description.
