There's no way this can't be the start of a series. Right? It can't just end like that; there's so much left to be told.

This is very good and, if RL stuff wasn't stopping me, I'd happily read it in one sitting.

Quite a mix. Action, romance, paranormal - not as deep or meaningful as I would have liked, but it kept me on the edge of my seat for a while, and it has been too long since a book has done that.

That was a crazy risk!

Unfortunately as soon as I read past the free preview, the character appeal plummeted: not only does it turn out she *likes* being bossed around by alpha males, she is doing a number of unethical things on the side, for selfish reasons and not her charitable profession. The story got interesting, though, although it is lagging at the moment.

So far I really like this book. It is a nice take on the supernatural world, she's a necromancer who helps ghosts resolve unfinished business so they can pass onto the afterlife. I like the Brooklyn/Manhattan setting, I love that the main character is cinnamon-skinned and that there is a lot of racial diversity in the characters, and I love the confident writing and strong but whimsical narration.
