The way Hamel wrote so he took away names and thus humanity when Nathan had to be a monstrous is so good. Took away carters name and called him slave so Nathan could do what he needed to to keep appearances

My god. The mental gymnastics Nathan/travis has to do to stay sane.

“Nathan strangles Travis until he passes out, rolling his lifeless body back behind the curtain. Travis is going to get all of them killed if he’s not careful. If he had his way, they’d be dead in a week.”

I wonder how many times the word "rape/rapist/raping" is used in this book, because I'm at like 30% and it's gotta be close to 50-60 times already. I also don't know how I feel about books where mc's are raping other mc's...... I guess they'll fall inlove..... but like........

My god what an experience

Nathan pushes to his feet. He looks at his reflection in the mirror.
The same one he stared at earlier. The image of the man Carter Beckett loves.
He takes a very deep breath.
Then, "It's time, Maison."
"Time?"
And Nathan has never felt so sure of anything.
"It's time we tell Carter the truth."

For a moment, Nathan almost scoffs.
Then he sees the look in Carter's eyes. He's fucking serious. He'll do it.
Carter refuses to live this life any longer than he has to. He’s made up his mind. When did that happen? When did Carter come to the conclusion that death would be better than this?

“You said once that you might kill me, after you’re done with me.” When Nathan says nothing, just holding perfectly still, Carter pushes forward. “I was wondering if maybe you’d promise me you’ll do that.”
“Promise to do what?”
“Kill me.”

Not for the first time, Carter’s strength leaves Nathan breathless. He doesn’t know how he got this lucky. Meeting Carter has been like a fucking religious experience.

That’s the difference between them, Nathan realizes. Nathan shut himself down to survive. He put Travis in a box and replaced him with a monster. Carter is hanging onto himself to survive. He’s clinging to his humanity and refusing to let it be taken from him. What does that say about Nathan?
What does it say about Carter?

Then Carter is fucking coming again.
Things go fuzzy then. Blissfully fuzzy.
The only thing that makes its way through his sex-induced haze are three words. “I love you.”
And Carter’s vocabulary returns with some words of his own. “I love you, too.”

Then his thrusts feel even harder, deeper, no escape or reprieve available, his body trapped as Nathan pounds him hard enough to make Carter’s mind fucking scramble.
There’s enough of his mind to realize one thing, though. One strange, unexpected, mind-blowing, confusing as fuck, thing.
Nathan, when being sir, has been holding back.
Carter is in nowhere near the right mindset to even begin to fucking analyze that.

He sucks the spot.
Nathan’s control snaps.
