This book is a really good reminder of why you need different types of people in your life. Genevieve telling him “She’s not some replacement. She’s something new. And how exciting, Efren. How exciting is that.” MWAH. Beautiful words girl

Girl, WHY are you fixating so much on the balls of a kitten? That and your fetish for armpits is so fucking weird.

You could have stopped at videos of Christian couples hating something you love making you cum. You didn’t have to add in the part about fathers and sons.

Every time someone has mentioned 2020 in a positive light, like a lovely change waiting just around the bend, I go “Oh no.”

Bro did not paint a picture of this New Mexico desert neighborhood well enough. Either that, or he’s just sucking dick across the street from a house in some open desert plain, only hidden by the darkness of night? Wild shit if so.

I like these interspersed fern facts—about how they have a unique root system which helps defend them from harsh environments and grow back quickly. About how they lie dormant for a long time before finally blooming when the situation is safe and healthy. Their significance is subtle and I like it

My thoughts so far are: 3 stars. The writing style annoyed me at first with its lack of quotation marks, but it’s growing on me. It feels very grounded and human, and the story so far makes me want to go on adventures outside, make new friends, live. I don’t know where we’re going just yet, but I’m enjoying the journey.

Chino just following right along with the littering and pissing in public made me lose a bit of respect for him. A botanist that doesn’t care enough about the environment to discard something probably because of peer pressure from strangers? Fuck off with that.

When life hurts so much you try and spare others the suffering… him just taking $47 from a kid who shouldn’t be driving and who hit him. I feel that, truly.

Metal Matt is a good fucking friend. Driving all the way from California even though he hates it because his buddy needs him in the wake of tragedy? Knowing he’ll be in a place where he won’t know what to do, so forcing him to act by making him drive you back? Amazing.

“The way things lead back to each other, the fact that everything crisscrosses and intersects, all these events coming together, makes me want to believe in something like resolution or purpose, that what you left behind—yes, the pain and anger, but also the good things, the joy—finds a way back to you.”
