The majority of perpetrators (in abuse) see themselves as the greater victim.

My mother was the dominant, abusive one growing up... Not my father. They went to 'couple' counseling. My dad said the pastor always took her part. That she always turned what he said, and the pastor assumed it was all his fault, not hers.

But, looking at it as a child, and now... It was mostly- if not all -her fault.

Anger can be addictive.

Pretty neat to read about the effects the Industrial Revolution had on Fathers and their relationship to their families. Nancy writes so clearly while tracing the evolution of the culture’s vision of the “Good Man.” I’m surprised how engaging this work is.
