Perhaps the bleakest work of horror I've ever endured; yet written so sensitively, carefully, and with a burning political consciousness. Every moment I've spent not reading this has still been marked by the weight of it in the back of my brain. An astonishing response to the Trump era's depravities - but how could you possibly run this thing? Who would play it? Who would dare?

Depression goes into happiness... and then the happiness gets literally mauled by a black bear on screen.

Beautiful twist though! Very curious to see where this is going.

The nausea and disgust one experiences from reading this tome is frequently broken up with boring (albeit depressing) bureaucratic drama and factoids about the broken child welfare system. It's a rollercoaster, but one between utter revulsion and depressing sadness/boredom.
