At this point I would maybe give a 3.5 rating. While the main theme and purpose of the novel is handled fairly well from my view, I’ve been struggling with understanding character motivations and actions. I feel some characterizations aren’t consistent, and despite being in first person POV I don’t feel like I’m really getting to dig into any character to understand why they’re making certain choices.

I am zipping through this book. I don't *love* Coa, and I perfer Ife's chapters because she's got more interesting stuff going on (I think I just like the politics aspects better)
Hazen Creed is still not a character??? It's weird, I thought he'd show up way more than he has
Max is...weirdly my favorite male character, he's very complex and I like that

Already really liking this!
I didn't expect it to be quite on the nose, when I heard it was dystopian fantasy I was expecting a dystopian in a fantasy world but it really punches you in the gut with the real world references. It's not lost on me that the empire is also called 'The allied force', which feels very pointed in today's American politics...
