The Conclusion at the end provides a summary of the 12 lessons Andrew Wommack shares in his book.
What a great book. My husband and I ended it with a greater understanding of King David than when we began.
David was not perfect, yet a man after God's own heart. God's grace and mercy is evident throughout this book We can learn from the mistakes of others and become men and women of God's heart too. Hallelujah

Chapter 19 Consequences reveals how sin can unleash a barrage of negative consequences. The sin of sexual immorality affected David's entire family. Lust caused David's son to rape his half-sister. It cost her virginity, and another son murdered.
King David and Bathsheba's relationship was conceived in sin. God's grace and forgiveness made it godly
Valuable life lessons are found in the life of David.

Chapter 16 The Danger of Prosperity readers are shown what resulted from David straying from God, and the purpose God gave him.
The author writes, "seasons of prosperity are more dangerous than seasons of pressure." The life of David shows this to be true.
King David became so prosperous, he lost his need for God and His guidance. His poor choices led to dire consequences that affected him and several others.

Chapter 15 - Follow God's Order - King David desired to bring the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. And he chose to do so his way which resulted in the sudden death of Uzzah by the hand of God.
Readers are given a clear understanding of the true cause of Uzzah's death. And it had to do with not following God's prescribed order. God is pleased when we do things His way and not ours.
His way is always best!

Chapter 14 A Purpose Bigger than Yourself reminds readers why God took notice of David. Perhaps it was because David was not self-centered. Not a good trail to have when we intend to please God.
David knew his purpose of being King. To serve God and the people of Israel. He had to deny self, and that's not always easy.
King David had to examine himself. We must do the same, to fulfill God's purpose for us.

Chapter 13 - A Snare reminds readers that accepting responsibility is the greatest sign of repentance. We see this in King David and in the story of the prodigal son.
And why King Saul and Absalom were man pleasers, and King David a God pleaser, which resulted in him have greater success.
What about us? Are we willing to do anything the Lord wants?

Chapter 12 "It's My Fault" - Readers see the truth about King Saul. He claimed he obeyed God but didn't fully,. He blamed others for his actions. Absalom felt justified and blamed others for the sins he committed.
King David disobeyed God too, but didn't blame others. Psalm 51 confirms this. Yes; he accepted responsibility for his wrong doings. And God saw his heart.
We can do the same; God sees our hearts too.

Chapter 11 - Actions and the Heart proved to be an interesting read, where the focus is on King Saul, King David and later King Absalom. All very different kings. David was the King with the most amount of scripture devoted to him, and whom God considered a man after His own heart.
The three kings were not perfect, they all committed sin. David however is remorseful and strives to do better. God saw his heart!.

Chapter 11 - Encourage Yourself in the Lord shares another lesson from the life of King David. He was selected and anointed to be king at age 17. Yet; didn't become King until the age of 30. And he faced great challenges during that time. Many people would have given up, but not David.
He encouraged himself in the Lord. Are we not to do the same when life overwhelms us? Draw near to God. He will draw near to us!

Chapter 11 - The Power of God, readers are reminded that David was judged based on his external appearance. How could a young lad defeat a huge giant? Then Saul offered his armor for David to wear. David declined knowing it wouldn't work for him. Instead David chose to trust in God's power and ability to help him defeat Goliath. And it worked for him.
God's power and ability is available for us too. Praise the Lord

Chapter 8 - A Confident Testimony shows why David was able to overcome the giant. He'd been faithful to God in small things first. A great lesson for all of us. Why would God trust us with something big when we haven't been faithful with something small?
I agree with the author. Our faith has to grow, and will increase with use. That's been my personal experience. We become giant slayers by trusting in God daily!

Chapter 7 is about overcoming criticism. David experienced this with his brothers, but didn't allow their comments to deter him. The author shares from his own life, how he had to overcome criticism from well-meaning family, friends, and those in the church.
This book sat unread on my bookshelf a long time, so glad I didn't give it away. I would have missed the lessons from David that are applicable for today.

Chapter 6 reminds readers of the covenant believers have with God.
David was a young man anointed to be the future king of Israel. The story of David and the giant Goliath is a familiar one.
What lesson do we learn from David? He spoke faith-filled words as he faced the giant, and he was successful. Born-again believers are to do the same. Believe and know faith-filled words will take down the giants in our lives.

Chapter 5 - A heart For God takes readers into the story of David and how he, a lowly shepherd boy is selected to be King over his 6 older brothers. Emphasis is given on not his looks or ability but his heart.
How often have we evaluated people based on their looks and abilities? The Bible tells us, God doesn't do that, nor should we.
It's true, regardless of our natural limitations, God looks at our hearts.

Chapters in this book are short but insightful. Chapter 4 is about moving on.
We read how Saul blamed others for his actions, and how his attitude led to his destruction. Imagine, God regretted making Saul King. How sad is that?
Then God had to tell Samuel, move on, it's time to stop mourning Saul. This begs the question, How long do we hang onto what God wants us to let go of?
Is today the day to let go?

Chapter 3 - Obedience is Better - We read in this chapter how Saul was only partially obedient to God's instruction. And it didn't do go well for him.
How many times do we as Christians fail to be fully obedient to God? Probably far more times than we care to admit. Thank God for His grace and mercy.
Not to obey God is simply disobedience. Readers are reminded, God makes a way for those who trust and obey..

Chapter 2 asks a great question. Do You Qualify? This chapter reiterates the difference between how God qualifies a person compared to man's. This point is made in I Corinthians 1:26-27.
Yes, God doesn't choose the way man does. He looks on the heart. God's saw David's heart. That's what made him standout above the rest.
Readers are reminded that God sees our hearts too, and He's qualified us. Hallelujah!.

Chapter One: Accept Responsibility. A very insightful chapter about Saul. I hadn't considered that God chose Saul to be King before David was even born. Saul started out obedient to God and all was well, but this chapter reveals what happened when King Saul took matters into his own hands, then blamed others for his demise. Yet; God was merciful, Saul remained King until his death.
Then David rules as King.
