This is the kind of book that would be excellent adapted to television. It's not overly descriptive in language, but it takes great pains to depict every small detail: to paint the perfect picture in the reader's eye, no matter how many words it takes to do so. Much like other classics, it needs a long uninterrupted weekend afternoon to fully enjoy it.

As good as I remember. I originally listened to both Titus Groan and Gormenghast via audiobook, narrated by Simon Vance (Robert Whitfield). Vance's narration was incredible but I was struck by Peake's language and the desire to read it, and read it slowly. Glad to have circled back around.

So much has happened but at the same time barely anything at all has happened. The title character is hardly even a few days old. But I am in love with this fucked up castle and its many freaks.
