Oh my gosh poor Connell. What he has out himself through for those kids. And Adam gee whiz to see him realize what he did and how it affected them all - good for him.

"The kids are fine. I called the school and let them know what happened and they've agreed to let Alona pick them up and take them home." --- I'm so exited!!! It's the FIRST time I see my own name in a book!!! It's only the babysitter... But still... Exited girl here!!!! :)))

Stylized reality! The two MCs have lives and people all around them, and they all play heavily into the story: no one exists in a vacuum. With the art of storytelling, I can't have too many people or too much time on many people or I won't care about anyone. This story was delightful, balanced. Except this last chapter with Adam's mom... denouement kinda running too long and too heavy with such a tertiary character.

Also, Will, I continue to love you. And I want you as my best friend.

What the hell? Chicken pox? Seriously, dude, there's a vaccine for that now. You'd think C would have known that, being all hyper-aware dad 'n' all....

(Also, the POV issues sort of blend away because it eventually becomes third person omnipotent, with a single scene showing three POVs smoothly. The biggest gold is the story itself, which is so good, a multitude of technical difficulties are allowed.)

Really enjoying the sparse and somewhat sarcastic humour lightly laced throughout this serious human drama, friends to lovers type story.

Oh, Connell's back story is perfect: angsty and believable, and just different enough to be surprising, not a cliche. Also, best friend of Lawrence (haha) is awesome. Lawrence speaking to best friend Will: he glanced up at Will accusingly. “And why the fuck didn't you stop me, huh? You fucking enabler!”

Really horrible--having to be in the bed, even beg to be in the bed, of a man you don't like, don't want, and certainly wouldn't choose as a partner, simply because that is the condition to being with your beloved children. And this is common, I'm sure.

Sudden POV switch at end of scene is sudden. But this story is charming and intriguing. So still with the forgiving.... And reading on.

POV switches are forgiven: secondary character is hilarious.

I was surprised to suddenly be reading from the second MC's POV after spending the first forty-ish pages consistently in the first MC's POV. But I rolled with it; it was okay. Now, four pages later, I'm in a secondary character's POV (the best friend of the first MC). Seriously losing the immersion....

I 100% see the MC as the huge, laid back Lawrence--personality and appearance--from the film Office Space. (The actor, Diedrich Bader, is damn alluring. Love his name too.)

Mouth twitching in amusement at Scott's opinion of his manliness, Adam asked reasonably, “And is your sister possessed by a demon? No, I don't think so.”
Scott took a moment to think and reflect on his sister's possible demonic qualities. “I dunno. She can get pretty nasty when I prank her.”
Lol. Scott (the kid, is hilarious!). No, not true! Adam (the adult talking to him here) AND Scott are hilarious.
