I’m a little concerned that this author might be racist. Not sure if it’s just how they wrote the character or if their opinions are infused in the work, but 1. Thad saying he’s going to build a school ‘in Africa’ and Lacy immediately being concerned that it’s dangerous/talking about war zones WHEN THAD NEVER SPECIFIED THE COUNTRY. 2. Lacy referring to hijabs as ‘those black sheets’ dismissively.

I had to stop reading at 62% and skip to the end to make sure this was gonna give me a happy ending.

This book is so different from the others I’ve read.
