I love that the central characters, sometimes charming, sometimes acerbic, are neither harmless nor blameless. This is unusual and most welcome in a cosy mystery about old people.

An impressive first chapter. The flowed as smoothly as a perfectly executed long single take dolly shot, tracking May Morrigan’s progress through Black Heath whileeffortlessly establishing her character and status and sharing some of her backstory. And it ended with a smile.
