Once again this book is trying too hard. Instead of letting us sit with what's just happened, it has to put us into another beast chapter that feels really tasteless, and the writing still hasn't moved out of Wattpad territory, but now with more gore.

I'm glad Desmond got taken out first. He deserved it, but I'm still really thrown off by the "Beast in the basement" chapters. It feels like the author is trying too hard to be mysterious and just ended up coming off as cringe and wattpad-worthy.

I'm not sure if I want to keep reading this (especially not staying sober). I've read better work on Wattpad in 2012.
