彼の言葉を借りれば、喜怒哀楽に対して、恐怖は独立している。例えば楽しいゲームをしていて、そのときは本心から楽しいと思っていても、それはそれとして死にたい気持ちが消えているわけではない。疑似的に凍結しているだけだ。しかし、本当に「怖い」ものを前にすれば、それらの気持ちは掻き消される。
