Came here for the ace/aro rep, but running into the usual wall I run into with this kinda stuff which is that the protagonists seem so... young lol. But I do relate (or at least my younger self does) to Alex's struggles. Also there are a lot of Englishisms, which, okay, isn't necessarily a bad thing, but they are very distracting.

Reading at the insistence of the bday girl

whenever there is some sort of strict parent who won't let a kid make their own decisions in a story i want to fight them. i want something horrible to happen to them in the story. i don't care that it's an archetype or if they mean well, i've seen people like this wreak havoc on kids' mental health and i want them to suffer consequences and regret their actions
