I think the book premise sounds great. I just didn't like the flowery writing style. Somebody in these reviews wrote the word verbose (which I just learned thanks to the reviewer woohoo) and the word fits perfectly.
I read this book for hours and I'm only at 27%. It was confusing. They talked in circles around each other. If there would have been just one straight forward conversation, I would have been happ

the longest book ever. flowery and slow. very little action/conflict. i am skimming pages like crazy and the effing thing is still not anywhere near the end.

So far Bo is very unlikable. He is rude (yes, dropping f-bombs several times in a sentence is rude), he is cryptic (because the author refuses to share), and he is quick to judge and push a person who was abused, suffered a horrific event and was let down by his people and family, shame and guilt forced on him for a 100 years.
There are also weird cultural references that not every reader can understand.
