Status Updates From The Roma: A Travelling History

Chapter 7, towards the end, mentioned that Charlie Chaplin had Roma ancestry! The more you know! 🌈🌟

Chapter 8 goes into further detail about the Roma community in the United States*.

*iirc, again 😅, I think the author briefly touched upon it in the introduction of the book.

Each chapter of the book is LONG, at least 40-70 minutes depending. And this is just the audiobook version.

The chapters begin with a European country, however, iirc, it includes the Roma community in the Americas (North & South).

Once again, I’m learning a lot about the Roma community & culture! 😊

The book is part memoir, part folklore, and part historical accounts:

1. Madeline talks about her own experiences as a Romani woman

2. She includes Roma folklore and customs

3. She also includes historical accounts about real Roma people.

I’m listening to the audiobook version. I also recommend listening at 1.25 speed, b/c the narrator (also the author) speaks rather slowly.

Other than that, this is a very informative and important book about a very marginalized minority: The Romani people.

im trying to read more widely but i do not read much nonfiction. does it all sound like essays i wrote in college that i hated so bad i didnt proofread before submitting
