This was the first eligible book I read from the 2026 Newbery class. The illustrator isn't from the U.S., so the book wasn't Caldecott eligible.

I've finished my review, but one more read of this for the road, before June ends.

I'll take one more careful read of this before I finalize my review.

One more read today before I sit down and sketch out my first draft of the review. Three stars is still on the table. This is one of the better Michael Joosten books I've read.
