"I hate him! I hate King Philip!" (Not particularly spoilery, as she's meh about daddy from page 1...) Um. Wouldn't she say "I hate my father"? There's a lot of clunky descriptive passages too, and yet the mythology and the characters are intriguing enough to keep me hooked.

Aaaaaaand here's the whiny part I'd heard about. There's a difference between a character that doesn't understand and/or like what she's got to do (Katniss Everdeen immediately comes to mind), and a character that simply whines her way through things. So far, Leila is listing to the latter. Hopefully she'll snap out of it soon, or this'll get tedious real quick.

This might be a book I don't finish. So far it's so bland. Ophelia has died already and it wasn't a very spectacular death and Edon has asked her to be a reaper. It was just like 'Hay how are you? You're dead. Want to be a reaper? You get to live forever.' And Ophelia is like oh okay sure. Boring. Just plain boring. And the rules, boring, the other reapers, boring.
