This author describes people as 'ignorant' while casually using words like 'simpleton', 'mental' and 'retard'. If this was prefaced with explaining that his career started in the 80s and the language in the book was going to move with the times, I wouldn't feel as uncomfortable as I do but it feels incongruous hearing a medical professional use outdated words.
