I know what the big secret from the past is and it’s even worse than I expected. I really liked the first book in this series. This book has flashbacks and a giant miscommunication theme, two of my least favorites. Plus a brother who is kind of an ass (hers) and a toxic, controlling dad (his).

This book started out really strong. They had a secret romance years ago that she ended abruptly, without explanation. She’s now back in town and he obviously wants to know why but she keeps running away when he tries to talk. This type of micro trope is rarely done well, and in this case it’s definitely dragging on too long and getting tedious.
