This got boring, lots of exposition to explain stuff previously held back by author. They are leaving Skull Row because Cypress wants them too.
I’m taking a break for a non fantasy book. The first book wasn’t great but I devoured it. This isn’t that.

Jane’s learns all her dad has to tell her, how Misery only needs her, not other Cinders, to be released. But this chick only cares about getting revenge for her family. How about saving the world from this god? She was so selfless before. If she were still, they’d all want her to off herself to stop the god rising. Seems simple. Why try to save her?

Jane is wanted because she’s a rare Cinder, like her mom (a person who can’t burn). Bad guys need her to go to Fire Isles and help God of Misery to be reborn. But why her? And why do they want this? Why do the people fighting this like Charles and Cypress know? Who is Kathleen for real. Why is Soren likable?

Misery is also Morvock. He has a howler monkey and a pocket watch that point to calamity. Shade is working for them (who talked to Jane at the brothel), likely attacked Soren at the end of book 1. Bad guys are to beware of the rubies.

Prologue is Blackwells perspective. He is working with a dark god. Misery wants Basilisk dead, along with Tempest, and Soren. “Misery’s restoration will be the death of the Council, and I will be there to stand in their ashes with a crown on my head, like the pompous cunts in Belstead.” The Scorpion’s daughter’s first act is of service to Misery’s cause, whether she realizes it or not.

This pace is killing me- and the relationship between the pirates and gods is getting real confusing 😅
