The more I read this book the more I like it. I really enjoyed the chapter about imaginative geography and Dante’s “The Divine Comedy” mentioned . I never noticed there were parts about Mohammed in there or lines about Islam, but in “Orientalism” Said gives interesting examples from this poem . Really interesting how perception of Islam and Orient was formed since Dante’s times and earlier .

Insightful so far. Though I was aware of some of these notions, either by chance of having read similar thoughts on the internet or by personal intuition, it is much more fulfilling and enriching to see them laid out on paper by such a great mind as the late Edward Said.

in his introduction, said takes on the call by foucault to examine the historical and cultural production of text, representation, and the orient to produce an entire discourse. a discourse!!
