The pacing and the story beats are just not what I was expecting for the final book in this series. There’s this fan service fanfiction vibe that’s impacting pacing,. There’s a whole scene 80% in describing what they’re eating for breakfast. And don’t even get me started on how IA force in sex scenes that are obviously for reader service. It all makes the big bad seem not as scary or urgent.

We probably needed a Hugh redemption arch but it’s uneven when they barely mention him for the first 70+ % and then the whole narrative is should we forgive him…oh btw this would make more sense if you read his novella

The tone is too light and feels like the stakes aren’t high enough for the last book

Jim has always been a more interesting character than Romon, but all of a sudden he’s become like central to the entire plot. He was not that important for most of the series.

Idk this doesn’t feel like the last book really. We’re half way through and surprisingly many things feel like filler. There are a little moments that feel like maybe the authors are trying to reminisce on character dynamics that have persisted throughout the series, but the whole conland thing just gives fanfiction epilogue.

Kate frequently does this thing where she just list all of her problems in a monologue… It’s almost like recapping for the audience. But reading these back to back, you notice how much she does it
