A very impulse decision to re-read one of my favorite books

Nick Spencer sighed as he poured out what felt like the millionth Appletini this week. Why did all the hot girls go for this repulsive drink? He blamed ‘The Bachelor’. Damn reality television, making ditzy girls live vicariously through idiots pining for a rose.

She doesn't want to see me. “She doesn’t know what she’s saying, man,” Adam said gently. “She’s in shock…”
“No, she does. She does know.” Nick looked at them in despair. “And she’s right. I f-ed it all up… everything. It’s all my fault. I’ll leave her alone.”

Adam saw Mia. She was crying and looked upset and shaken. “What happened?” He stared down at her face and he just knew. Nick. You f-ing moron. “He’s in there with another woman, isn’t he?” Her lip trembled. “Yes.”
“S!#t. I’m sorry, Mia. When it comes to relationships, Nick can be a real idiot.”
“But I thought he’d try with me.”
“He did try, Mia. I know he did.” “Well, maybe he did. But he’s stopped trying now.

Foreshadowing danger so maybe they should take a break from the nonstop sex and he should teach her some self defense!! He says she is so smart, but I think she is gonna do something TSTL soon is she thinks she can investigate sex trafficking without danger!

Nick was wild and hot no doubt about that. But he was also careful and caring and strong and smart and… well. Sweet. She was starting to develop strong feelings for him. She knew it was stupid and she knew it was all happening too fast and she knew she’d probably end up getting hurt in the end. But there it was: she liked him. A lot.

“Calm down, babe. I’m not going to hurt you – just hold on to me.” Mia’s strength gave out completely and she lay in his arms and cried. The realization of what would have happened to her if Nick hadn’t been there overwhelmed her, and she let herself really feel the shock and anger of it for the first time.

You’re going to be OK. You’re safe now. I’ve got you.”
For a few seconds, Mia was able to hear and feel everything: she was pressed up against a naked chest that was rising and falling steadily. She felt the man’s heartbeat against her cheek, and his warmth spread over her whole body. His hands were gentle. Then – between his breaths and heartbeats – she blacked out completely and knew nothing more at all.

So far, the night was right on course to go the way his nights working at The Cave almost always did: great tips from hot women, his most devastating flirting and come-ons followed up by sex with no strings. He didn’t know it then, but his night tonight was going to be different. Tonight was going to change everything.
