Status Updates From The Five Dialogues of Plato

“I am wiser than this man; it is likely that neither of us knows anything worthwhile, but he thinks he knows something when he does not, whereas when I do not know, neither do I think I know; so I am likely to be wiser than he to this small extent, that I do not think I know what I do not know.”

SOCRATES: We shall soon know better whether it is. Consider this: Is the pious being loved by the gods because it is pious, or is it pious because it is being loved by the gods?…

…SOCRATES: So it is in the same case as the things just mentioned; it is not being loved by those who love it because it is something loved, but it is something loved because it is being loved by them?

Started the fourth dialogue, Meno. Longer than the others so I decided to split it into three parts based on the thematic content. This first section is about the nature of Virtue. It feels a lot like a more refined, mature, and civil version of the Euthtyphro dialogue. Quite good but personally I feel like this is a debate that doesn't feel as important in the modern day.

Read the third dialogue, Crito. I only had to read the first two for class but I bought the whole book, I'm going to read the whole book. This dialogue was quite short but I really liked it. Discussion of what it means to be a good citizen as well as thoughts on how to face death with dignity. I think about my own death and mortality a lot so I liked this aspect. Wish everyone nowadays had a spine like Socrates.
