Only read the new introduction and I’m already smiling and marvelling as I remember Carter’s humour, spectacular characters, places and twists. Her symbolism and her uncontrollable mouth. Already this shows Carter as the icon she became. The writer I first read at 14.

Some of these essays are more writerly, others more academic: they all deserve slow reading, and pondering. I'm learning something about Angela Carter, I'm enjoying it, I'm savoring it. It's one of those books you'll go back and reread, at times, when another shard of understanding hits you.
