I'm really liking how this takes place in the Philippines.

I am really into the storyline about Antonio's life, but the paranormal/horror part is lack-luster.

It is better; at least I am not thinking about other things I could be doing every other sentence. I love the 1950s Philippines setting and the descriptions of village lifestyle, it is just the scary parts aren't scary.

Why does my ebook say ARC on it, and we have a review deadline when it was published in October? I just noticed this. The book isn't much better than before, but it seems to be getting to the core of the story now. Hopefully.

Really slow reading. It seems like I have been reading forever and I am only 10% in. Too much time spent describing the mundane. No horror yet either. I hope the silliness that has happened so far isn't considered the horror.

Started off with pirate leader cursing the village of Dasalin for murdering the pirates in 1881... with one young 8 year old boy trying to dig holes in the sand to free the pirate leader before the sea kills him and because of this he is found curled up on the beach crying but at least he's safe
Next it's 1956 meet Antonio Pulido who brings the priest to the village church on his tricycle 1st to meet him!

The term flip-flops has been used only since 1972. I know other things have happened in the story but the term just don't jive well with the story and has been bothering every time it was mentioned. Maybe tsinelas> will fit better.

Then again, the focus is not on the tiyanak and the nuno sa punso but on the langbuan and the curse. We'll see how it goes.

Hmmmm, nice intro but too much horror-creature exposition in the first few chapters.
