Status Updates From I Would for You

Gus now likes Reed. She has been internally struggling with who she wants to be as an individual and she is struggling to pick between Fish or Reed. During all of this chaos, Gus tends to look back to the way things used to be. The author states, "I open my yearbook until I find the photo. I know that girl. I am that girl. I would do anything for her, to be her again" (274). In the end, I think she will choose Reed.

In the beginning of the book, Gus is a senior in high school. She is dating a boy named Fish (James), who has gone away to college and they start to struggle with long distance. Gus meets a boy named Reed and starts to catch feelings for him when she knows it is wrong. “Reed is staring at me… He mouths back, ‘Let’s go.’ Flutters again. That has to stop”(63).

Gus and her boyfriend are starting to have relationships problems. Gus starts to catch feelings for Reed that she try's to ignore. In one of their arguments Gus thought to herself, "The only person I want to talk to right now is the one person I know I shouldn't call" (Page 145). Instead of wanting to talk to her boyfriend, she wants to talk to reed. This leads to my prediction that Gus and Fish will breakup soon.
