Quick read, cute story, nothing crazy but all the elements were there

Cyrus gets taken down by the forest idk but Modor comes to bite B and after doing so ends up poisoned by the potion in his blood and dies

They bury Cyrus and return to the city, B realizes the smell on the library paper is so familiar that he’s convinced it’s from his parents who must work at the library

B adds the flower to the potion but only eats a drop before Lionel starts throwing stones breaking the vial

They run from Modor and Faedor and make it to the cottage, Toby hides in the loft and B gets F and M to fight each other off

Cyrus was led into the forest when he was younger and he knocked down Madalena at the time and the monsters went for her instead, so he came back to the Scura to right his sin

Toby admits he sniped it and gave it to Cyrus

The prophecy tells that Cyrus will go to fix his past sin and Bonebag will go back too

They find the other rags outside the Scura forest unable to have followed Cyrus inside so Toby orders them back to base

Madalena is pissed B came back andddd brought her sister so she runs off and Margot pursues her but gets separated from the trio

The two head back to the Verm and only Toby is there, they find red paint in Cyrus’ room and realize he vandalized the mural and the fact he always wears a glove on his right hand means he must have scales there and is the boy who visited Eleanor before

they realize Cyrus is taking all the rags to fight the Scal Occul but without something from the forest they could never enter the forest, B needs to find his locket

Eleanor offers the last of the potion for B to take to stop his spread of scales on his leg, but lets him know the Scal Occul can only destroyed by one of their own…

The previous boy took the potion but B might not

The get to Eleanor Marr’s house and she is now a creature covered in moon scales, says a boy came looking for a cure before B and Eleanor found a potion recipe but couldn’t gather the final ingredient nectar from the forgotten flower, she drank it anyway and it stopped the advancement of the scales but did not reverse it

The flower grows near the log that Bonebag would hide the moon things

Margot can’t check out the book as it’s the only copy left so she copied the notes, they plan to go the author’s house on an island but without Toby, he has to pretend B was taken by yellowjak’s so Cyrus doesn’t blame Toby for it and Margot goes in exchange for the promise that B takes her to her sister

B reads the notes and it says that the shape-shifters have three stages and if their talons pierce you, you turn

Skritch had a book w illustrations on the Scal Occul and a boy had a moonthing so they traded, now B wants the book and the girl Margo is very rich so she can get into the library where the other copy is

The library has stone statues of beasts that B has dreamt of, Margo goes in to check out the book being the only non-rag in the group

They go to the Gullet (bazaar-like area) to meet Skritch and otw there the girl returns and angrily demands where is her sister?!? But B’s locket is gone and when he shows his scales Skritch has a moonthing on a necklace and the girl has one in her bag

Bonebag knows deep down that Cyrus won’t help him find his parents so he decides to go see that girl again but Toby is afraid he’ll be blamed for B leaving so he says as a last resort he’ll take him to a guy that can help

That night his scratches from Modor turn into moonthing scales

Ok so not actually her but resembles her enough that he doesn’t want to leave despite her haughty attitude and throwing coins at him, she has a matching locket the same photo of a woman and two girls

Otw back to the Curve there’s red X’s vandalized over the entrance and Cyrus is convinced the yallowjak’s have found their hide out

In the Curve, he hopes to meet Cyrus the leader of the Verm, and when he does it’s underwhelming it’s short and he’s suspicious of Bonebag of being a jak spy, he’s only 18 or so not a full grown adult like he thought

Cyrus makes a statement that war is coming so battle camp starts tmw, mandatory

Toby takes him topside to practice pickpocketing and his first mark is Madalena!

Bonebag says he’s fresh from the docks so Toby thinks he’s a country boy and calls him Beebs

Toby says that parents were turned away from a high hill mansion when the storm came so they left their kids at the prison to not risk having them drown, the parents drowned instead

Tony tells him rags are children without parents and he’s taking him to Cyrus who takes care of all the rags

They head down into the tunnels, Toby says he tries to save rags from the yellowjaks and bring them to the Curve but he’s suspicious since Bonebag doesn’t know about all of this or that Zelda is what caused so many kids to be rags

Toodles injures on Yellowjak and before the second can hit him back Bonebag yells don’t and distracts him so Toodles can escape, he himself is hit

He comes to in a jail cell w Madalena’s locket around his neck but the yellowjak takes it from him, calling him a rag who will get taken by a rag wagon

Toodles pays the yellowjak and takes Bonebag out, and Toodles or Toby Lightfingers, already stole the locket back

Lionel doesn’t want to be buried and runs away w one of his bones

Mador and Feydor still chase him and Madalena is left behind as Bonebag runs through her and escapes the Scura w a would from Mador’s talon

He sees children w mice masks running from Yellow Jak’s, some hornet-like assailants

She’s a ghost and all the other ghosts are named Bonebag, saying his “parents” actually stole him and they are all previous victims of theirs

Madalena, the girl, warns that the parents will shed their human husks and feast on him, he tries to escape the house that night and w M’s help is able to, he takes the pages of his books w him and she asks him to bury the bones of all the previous children to bring them peace

Decrepit house, apathetic parents, forest isolation

Bonebag steals a moon thing from the house and hides it in a log in the forest, he’s burned by a locket in the pocket of a tattered dress in the log, passes out then runs home before creatures can catch him

The girl from the locket is outside beckoning him, he’s convinced his loneliness spurned her from his imagination
