fuck i knew brandon couldn’t let david become an epic. i am just so impressed and proud that he managed to fight the impossible so easily and spit it in regalia’s face. i was curious to see what his powers would’ve been.. the next book is called calamity though. let’s hope david isn’t forced to find out.

regalia makes me sick. but damn, she thought this through. and no one is surprised that david was right about this creepy ass city all along. she’s genuinely insane.

it just doesn’t stop. what the fuck is prof on about.. i love how brandon writes it so that you can see it as it overtakes jon. him saying david is “destroying him” is.. wow. after chapters of saying david is just what the team needed. and dismissing david with sarcastic forgiveness and trapping him in a force field. holy.

oh fuck if i thought the last scene was bad.. the things i feel towards prof right now are so conflicting. i fully understand why he was suspicious and why he and val wouldn’t want him to talk to megan. but to spy on him and only bring him on this mission to kill his only love.. i don’t know.

damn i didn’t expect megan to know her weakness for some reason. i love that david didn’t ask, and that she noticed that he didn’t.

again, their moments are just so unique. i think love is rarely portrayed like this in fantasy novels, at least not in the ones that i’ve read. then again i never read books where the mc is a guy so i don’t really get a glimpse into their internal awkwardness.

they’re so dumb 😭 but i loved this scene too. megan returning his “ogling” comment from earlier was so good. and i FELT the awkwardness at the end..

also, mention of prof’s past makes me wonder what his weakness is and whether there’s any correlation to him almost dying in the past? (like what they know abt sourcefield and mitosis)

this scene feels nostalgic somehow. of course i know i’ve never “been” here but tia being a rocket scientist just feels so right. it feels like they’re in a cozy, old base, settled and living smaller lives since the end of the era of power-hungry epics. specifically the part about 13 years of calamity changing prof more than his epic powers had.. it feels like looking back on the lives they could’ve led.
