As they looked at each other, A-Ka's and Heishi's expressions contained the same surprise. A-Ka was holding out his bracelet, while Heishi held out the other one.

"If you think of yourself as a human as well," A-Ka suggested with a smile, "then you might not feel as lonely."

"But after thousands of years, or even tens of thousands of years," Heishi said, "humans will still destroy it, as they always do."
"I won't," A-Ka said quietly, "But I can only speak for myself."
