Status Updates From Service

Back to the surly bookseller, and on to Part II. Repetition runs rampant, the debt collector is at his heels, and ‘the boy’ is his beta reader. “Meta, meta,” indeed.

Updating now because I always forget to do so after closing. Unremitting misanthropy aside, Sean’s diatribes haven’t turned me off yet - but perhaps that’s due to my relative youth. Readers upwards of forty might feel otherwise.

More of the same - as he expected and abhorred. “Literature of Impoverished Solitude” is my home turf, and the criticism of biographers having tragedy quotas (&c.) is spot-on.

Picked this up on a whim in the Castro ‘cos one of the blurbs likened it to ‘Bartleby the Scrivener’ meets Kafka’s ‘Diaries’, and I must say… this misanthropic bookseller really is a modern Underground Man.

I’m pleased to report I’m enjoying it so far. T’was good company on public transit. Hoping it doesn’t get tedious as some report, but then, I’ve always empathized with this sort of louse.
