why did rebecca have to write enormous chapters like this? 😭

Nothing is happening in this book. The same shit over and over. It's like Kuang shoved every single little idea she had about what a chinese american girl might experience in taiwan. Neither she nor her editors could bear to part with even one of Kuang's ~ingenious~ insights. So fucking miserable.

So the first chapter is this girl experiencing culture shock, she has some clear complex about being chinese american and a little out of place about it (esp when ppl in taipei can clearly identify her as a foreigner), studying chinese in her program and how hard it is, Anna and JC are some characters introduced to us... +
