I'm always so astonished by the fact that a such a deep Catholic subculture exists on the internet and in general.

This is my bread and butter. How do you run a religious institution in the modern age? How does the spread of science, technology and medicine impact on what spiritual beliefs/superstitions we deem acceptable? It's fascinating how regular believers clamor for certain "outdated" practices that the Church rejects. It seems like there is a disconnect between the Catholicism of lay believers and church officials.
