I’m not twenty anymore. I realized very early in my career that if I want to be taken seriously, I need to dress like I want to be taken seriously.

He doesn’t look at me the way men usually do. They don’t really see me; they’re just interested in my wealth and connections. They look at me like they’re trying to decide whether I’m worth the effort, or if my barracuda reputation is better left in a boardroom.
But this man looks at me like he’s trying to confirm something, like which piece of a puzzle I can fit into.

There’s something magnetic about her. The stillness. The control. The way she refuses to give my father the reaction he’s looking for. Most people crumble under Eamon Molloy’s icy stare. She doesn’t. She’s calm and calculating. Emotionless in the face of adversity.

She’s damn impressive. And it takes a lot to impress me.
My eyes refuse to wander away from her. I shouldn’t be noticing the slope of her neck. The way her dark hair falls over her shoulders. The way her gown clings to the curves of her body.
But I notice. God help me, I notice.

“Not when the people you love are the price.” I pause. “But you already know that, don’t you?”

Too bad honesty is the one thing that’ll destroy us both.
