These last two chapters on internationalism and britain in europe, were quite cringeworthy reading for me, given it is all the tactics used by remainers to scare people into staying in the EU. I didn't buy it then, and I am not buying it anymore now. I am just glad this whole delusional left narrative is in the past. It really strikes me as little more than a set of religious beliefs and dogmas, desperately clung to

As they continually misunderstand the dynamics of a real society, as opposed to an ideologically driven, utopian one.

He says, for socialists, the core responsibility of the government is to maintain cohesion of society and avert social breakdown, but I don't think this is accurate at all. Their core aim is to keep making things "more" equal, as this is the only way they can carry on "progressing", and they always take it too far till social cohesion is in fact undermined and society starts to breakdown

Not seen anything yet to alter my judgment of the current left in UK politics as simply untrustworthy, and narrowly committed to outdated ideologies that do not reflect the current reality we need to deal with.

A lot of these little political tactics, and rhetoric are making much of this book uninteresting to me. Also the strawmanning of neoliberalist economics when this is not something Conservatives stand by in anything like the Thatcher era. I really don't think talk of neo-liberalism is an accurate term for current political and economic problems on the world stage, its just a strawman for out of touch socialists.

Frustrating reading, some important insights unfortunately always misrepresented in line with his labour biased filters. Quite worrying how he seems to identify the government with the people, as if government can blindly be trusted to do and want what is best for the people. So many times, he reasons, a past problem for labour was a problem for all countries, a success of labour, was unique to them, very convenient!
