When you’re in the middle of it, you can get lost, feeling like hockey is the only thing that matters.
Whenever we have dinner at his place, or he comes to visit, I’m reminded just how much more there is to this life than hockey.
Most of it has to do with his daughter.
He talks about his hockey career with joy, but he talks about his family with love.

Alexander about Sarah’s dad, John

Alexander- As my team leaves the ice, I can’t help but look around the arena one last time, taking in the cheers of our fans.
We just made it into the Stanley Cup playoffs.
For the first time in 17 years, the Chicago Coyotes will play for the Cup.

“Christ, I love you,” I say, without really thinking.
Shit.
Is this too soon?
When she answers by licking up my throat, before giving me a scorching hot kiss, all tongue and grabby hands, I feel my nerves ease.
“I love you too, Alexander,” she tells me, making me feel lightheaded.
She actually said it back.
Not that I thought she wouldn’t, but it kind of just popped out of me.

“Well, I don’t know how your dad looked at your mom, but I can confirm I have it bad for you, Sarah,” I tell her sincerely, wanting to wipe away any doubt in her mind.
She lets out a small breath, smiling at me.
“Yeah, I have it pretty bad for you, too.”

“Wow, this would be the best story ever at your wedding,” Braden says, making my heart gallop in my chest.
When I catch Alexander’s eye, the look he gives me is like no other.
Clearly not fazed by the suggestion from his brother, he simply says,
“Yeah, it will be.”

“Wow, this would be the best story ever at your wedding,” Braden says, making my heart gallop in my chest.
When I catch Alexander’s eye, the look he gives me is like no other.
Clearly not fazed by the suggestion from his brother, he simply says,
“Yeah, it will be.”

“I’m in so much trouble with you, McGregor,” she tells me, making me wink at her.
“I’m right there with you, Parker.”

I’m in a constant state of arousal around this woman, but having her close, taunting me about my teammates having a shot with her, well, that has awoken the caveman inside me.

In the early part of her internship, she had a lot to learn about the team, its dynamics, and its players.
Over time, she’s becoming more confident in her role and her ability to contribute to the team.
I’ve been following her work and hearing all the praise from the guys, which makes me extra proud of her, knowing hockey players can be a tough crowd.

At four o’clock, my favourite ice hockey player is leaning against the doorframe to our office, giving me a dazzling smile.
“Hey, baby. Ready to go?” He asks me, making Samantha sigh beside me.
We’re definitely her favourite reality show.

“Did you just arrive in Alexander’s car, or am I hallucinating?” she asks immediately.
“I did, but how did you even know?” I reply, settling into my chair.
She grins at me, clearly very pleased with herself.
“I was spying out the window.” I chuckle at her; we really have become her favourite live reality show.

He’s all ripped muscle and sculpted, but it’s his eyes that really draw me in. I feel like he’s looking right into my soul, and I’m watching him right back.

Sarah- The way Alexander looks at me makes me feel more powerful and sexy than I’ve ever felt, and I can’t understand how I ever doubted being with him.

When we land back in Chicago, I’m ready to hunt down Sarah and tell her that I’ll take whatever she’ll give me.
Hell, being away from her for just a few days made me realize that I can’t let her go.
If we have to be together on her terms, then so be it.
It’s better than not having her at all.

Alexander has decided to accept Sarah’s FWB proposal

“I’m always on your side, Sarah. I think he’s making good points, too. I know you’re scared, but just because it’s scary doesn’t mean it’s not worth a shot.”
I’ve already reached the same conclusion, but having my best friend’s support makes me more confident in my decision.
“Yeah, I think so too.”

Sarah has decided to accept Alexander’s relationship proposal

Sarah- I would never be able to follow through on a friends-with-benefits agreement with him when my heart is already so heavily invested.
I might get burned, but Alexander is a man worth taking that chance with.

But I can’t give him that.

His anger surprised me—how passionate he was about this, and how my suggestion seemed like a ridiculous idea to him.

“Seriously, what do you want then?” she asks, & I corner her against the wall, making sure she’ll hear every word.
“I want it all, Sarah. Waking up with you in my arms, serving you breakfast in bed, exploring the city with you, & having dinner together. Then, we’ll get to the fucking part, & believe me, we’ll spend plenty of time doing that too. But I want more,” I say, my tone firm as I look at her.

“I’m sorry I ran off like that; as I said, I got scared because everything with you feels overwhelming, in a good way,”
