Status Updates From Berserk, Vol. 13

That was horrific.

I’m glad Rickert was spared from the feast and the events of the eclipse. But I’m also scared that he and Erica might have something bad happen to them down the line. I have only once volume left of the Golden Age and I’m afraid to continue. I can’t bear anything else happening to Casca or Guts.

He said that the boundary between the mortal world and that of the dead are blurred and they are now in the interstice. I wonder if that applies to everyone or if it’s just for those with the mark of sacrifice on them. I think it’s the former. I think we’ve seen others get killed with evil spirits and what have you. But is it widespread? Or only following Guts and Casca, i.e. the ones with the brand?

The skull knight is an interesting character! My initial theory (for some reason) was that he was Guts but I’m probably way off. I didn’t expect to see him here. He came, fought Zodd (and won), broke the barrier and went into the whirlwind and got Casca and Guts out. He said that they’re not destined to die here. But I wonder why he saved them. Who sent him? And if he’s working on his own then why?

I did not expect Guts to cut his own arm! And the way he loses it along with his right eye makes it all the more painful. And when he wanted to comfort Casca and she flinched and fled from his touch made me so sad. I’m going to throw up. There’s no punishment strong enough for Griffith.

And now Casca has almost lost her mind. And she doesn’t recognize Guts or Rickert and only trusts and clings to Erica (the Blacksmith’s little daughter) which makes sense of course. And she keeps going to stand under the water, probably to wash away what has happened. I feel sick. And Guts (who’s a victim himself) watched it all and couldn’t do a thing. I feel so sick.

And Casca…I don’t even know where to start with her. What happened to her in this volume is so disturbing. I understand it as a part of the story but the way it was drawn was so icky to me. I honestly don’t like the way all of the sexual assaults/rape scenes where (women are involved in particular) are drawn. But poor thing! I hate Griffith so much. How could he do that? And to Casca of all people? I hate him.

This volume was brutal! Pippin and Judeau died like heroes. But I’m so heartbroken. I loved them so much. And I even feel sad for Corkus. And the Raiders and Gaston. They died horribly and they were all just trying to help Griffith. And don’t even get me started on Griffith. What a sick bastard! From the way it was depicted, he had a choice between pain or salvation and he chose THAT!!!! What a piece of shit!!!!

What the actual fuck?
