Hmmmm I am so close to DNF ing this book.... It's not badly written, but the constant parallels with Fourth Wing (dragon bonds, war academy, vile instructors) and Harry Potter (Lyric really feels like Hagrid, friendship group, enemy school peers, Snape like instructors, vengeance for dead parents) is wearing and tiresome. It is a cute story though... Perhaps I'll persevere but it sometimes feels contrived I'm afraid

Like Harry Potter and Fourth Wing have been melded together with a side of How To Train Your Dragon. Too many similarities and parallels for me-Dementors/Syphons, Nyra/Andarna, Nevaria/Nevarre to name a few.
The writing feels patchy, stilted and lacks flow which I am struggling to stay engaged with. If I was reading it rather than listening to the audio version while working I think I would have dnf’d by now.
